Parent Guide

How to Introduce Your Teen to Artificial Intelligence

A practical parent guide to getting a 12–17 year old started with AI: where to begin, what to avoid and how to turn curiosity into real projects.

Start with curiosity, not theory

Most teens already use AI tools every day without knowing how they work. The best starting point is asking them what they use and what they wish it could do.

From there, small hands-on experiments — building a simple chatbot or an image classifier — teach far more than reading definitions.

Focus on building, not just using

Using AI to finish homework teaches little. Building something with AI teaches problem solving, logic and how the technology really behaves.

Encourage one small project per month that your teen can show to friends or family.

Talk about responsible use

Discuss privacy, bias and honesty early. Teens who understand the limits of AI use it more thoughtfully at school and online.

Get structured guidance

Self-learning works for some teens, but many benefit from a mentor, a schedule and peers. A live small-group program gives that structure without replacing school.
